Job Description:

Position Overview

Ensures the safety and security of patients, families, staff and authorized visitors at CTCA facilities.

Coordinates and executes disaster response or crisis management activities, assist with preparedness training, and preparing emergency plans, and procedures for all hazards required by accrediting organizations. Emergency Preparedness & Life Safety Specialist performs diversified duties related to Hospital Emergency Management, including review, update and drafting of emergency plans, maintenance of the Comprehensive Emergency Management Plan (CEMP), Continuity of Operations Planning (COOP). This includes policy and procedure development, drill and exercise program management, education and training development, and emergency response plans. Represents the hospital at community planning activities.

The Emergency Preparedness & Life Safety Specialist is responsible for ensuring that the highest level of safety and security standards are always maintained. This individual interacts with various department ensuring general safety practices are being adhered to.  The Emergency Preparedness & Life Safety Specialist provides on-going Life Safety training and General Safety Programs. The Emergency Preparedness & Life Safety Specialist will collect information about deficiencies and identifies opportunities for improvement in the Environment of Care programs. The Emergency Preparedness & Life Safety Specialist must have a working knowledge of applicable Joint Commission (TJC), The JC EOC Periodic Performance Review / Standards, OSHA, NFPA, NIOSH rules and regulations and the ability to research and interpret standards as required.

Other duties include:

  • Keep informed of activities or changes that could affect the likelihood of an emergency, as well as those that could affect response efforts and details of plan implementation.
  • Propose alteration of emergency response procedures based on regulatory changes, technological changes, or knowledge gained from outcomes of previous emergency situations.
  • Review emergency plans of individual organizations such as medical facilities in order to ensure their adequacy.

Study emergency plans used elsewhere in order to gather information for plan development.

Key Position Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required
  • 3-5 years previous experience in a related field
  • CLEET I, II, and IV certification preferred
