Job Description:
Assumes the accountability and responsibility as a professional nurse for providing total, comprehensive, continuous, and patient centered care for an assigned group of patients. Provides direct patient contact, which includes assessing the patient, developing a comprehensive nursing plan of care, implementing aspects of nursing care to meet identified patient care outcomes, evaluating the effectiveness of a nursing plan of care and education of patients/care givers who require infusion therapy and other nursing services. Follows established nursing objectives, standards, policies, and procedures. Practices within the defined scope of practice for the Registered Nurse and commits to providing safe, quality infusion nursing care.
Assessment:
Collects patient data and completes required documentation with appropriate responses according to unit standards.
Completes toxicity screen on all patients.
Updates allergies in Electronic Medical Record.
Updates patients’ current medication in Electronic Medical Record.
Identifies patients’ problems/needs and sets priorities.
Identifies problems requiring further referral and/or follow-up.
Interprets and records latest diagnostic results.
Performs nursing assessment using critical thinking skills.
Provides information to physicians and other Health Care Professionals of changes in patients’ condition.
Education:
Educates the patient and caregivers about the disease process, side effects and health promotion.
Documents the education provided to the patient or caregiver and the assessment of the patients or caregivers comprehension.
Explains nursing procedures. Provides discharge teaching.
Participates in orientation of new personnel through preceptorship.
Planning Care:
Develops a plan of care based on nursing process, which incorporates the plans of other disciplines and continuing care needs.
Includes the patient/family in developing or revising the plan of care.
Makes referrals to multidisciplinary support services
Implementing/Managing Care:
Care provided conforms to accepted practice standards (ONS)
Provides treatments/procedures and other care as prescribed and according to patient care standards and plan of care
Demonstrates understanding of age-related characteristics and needs of patients served.
Explains nursing procedures
Provides discharge teaching
Identifies emergency situations and independently initiates appropriate actions
Acts as an advocate and coordinator of patient care with other health care personnel and evaluates patient care measures instituted.
Understands and demonstrates respect for patient rights and utilizes established mechanisms for management of ethical issues in patient care
Consultant to the healthcare profession, patient or caregiver regarding patient advocacy and delivery of safe, competent, and quality nursing care
Performs handoff communication as appropriate
Administer medications, chemotherapy, IV fluids and blood products safely and per policy
Follows hospital based policy regarding equipment maintenance and infection control measures.
Evaluation:
Records patient care delivered as planned and any variation, with appropriate rationale.
Makes and records observations related to impending or associated problems.
Implements nursing measures related to impending or associated problems
Leadership:
Using nursing process, delegates nursing care to appropriate personnel and supervises care given.
Complies with hospital expectations to meet staffing demands based on patient care needs.
Complies with policies addressing safe working conditions; monitors and reports unsafe working conditions.
Recognizes inappropriate and/or ineffective patient care management, resolves issue/problem and completes written reports.
Demonstrates active participation in KPI processes: responsible for performance improvement as it relates to nursing.
Alters practice as needed when opportunities to improve care are identified by PI rendering quality patient care.

Conduct:
Recognizes unit problems and takes responsibility for notifying appropriate personnel and documenting
Follows attendance and tardy policy
Remains flexible in staffing patterns and resolution of staffing conflicts
Recognizes and follows chain of command for addressing and resolving departmental issues
Demonstrates a willingness and ability to assis other
Maintains a clean and organized work area, ensuring appropriate supplies and equipment are available for patient care
Willingness to float to other units as directed by supervisor/manager
Education/Experience Level
Current state Registered Nurse License required
Bachelor of Science Degree required or enrolled within 6 months of hire and completed within 3 years from hire date
Current BLS required
ACLS preferred
Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy certification preferred
Current Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Provider Card or must obtain within 6 months of hire
Minimum 2 years in oncology and/or medical-surgical units preferred
Experience in multi-disciplinary approach to patient care
Excellent infusion therapy-related skills (peripheral and central lines)
Pay Range
$30.97 - $51.02Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility. These factors are considered without regard to an individual’s status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
