Job Description:
JOB SUMMARY
The Director of Stem Cell Operations is responsible for overall operations and quality management for the Stem Cell department. Provides leadership in the areas of daily operations, cost management, capital and operating budgets, program development and quality management. Responsible for developing and implementing strategies to enhance operations, clinical outcomes, patient experience and program growth. Responsible for annual budget planning and preparation and enhancing profitability. Working closely with the finance department, assist in financial reporting, cost analysis and developing fixed price stem cell transplant contracts. Responsible for development and attainment of departmental key performance indicators (KPI) and support clinical excellence and enterprise-wide initiatives. The Director builds and maintains collaborative relationships with all members of the clinic team, especially physicians, as well as leaders and team members in partner departments who facilitate the care of the patient. Oversees, guides and mentor staff for achievement of excellence. Contributes to the hiring and termination decisions, develops job descriptions, competency and performance standards, and monitors assignments and productivity of departmental stake holders.
Coordinates quality and regulatory compliance for the Stem Cell Transplant and Cell Therapy Program (SCTCT) and acts as a liaison with cell therapy Collection and Processing Laboratory. This position will be responsible to ensure the SCTCT Program meets the standards and requirements of external agencies such as Joint Commission, FACT and FDA. Responsible for on-going readiness for accreditation. Provides supervision and performance management to the Stem Cell team and responsible for overseeing data management and data reporting.
Leadership
Provide frontline leadership and direction through creative approaches to enhance operations, clinical outcomes, patient experience and growth within the stem cell program.
Provide leadership and collaborate with other departments that are components of Stem Cell Program (eg.Laboratory) to facilitate operational excellence and implementation of quality management plan.
Guide, coach and mentor staff for achievement of department’s goals and objectives.
Implement enterprise-wide initiatives in the department and develop strategies for attaining department KPI’s.
Financial Stewardship
Responsible for cost management, capital and operating budgets, operational decisions and program development.
Develop cost accounting reporting and implement strategies for cost management and improve department’s contribution margin.
Quality and Regulatory Compliance
Develop and implement strategies to ensure the SCT Program meets the standards and requirements of the hospital as well as external agencies such as Joint Commission, FACT, FDA and AABB. Responsible for on-going readiness for accreditation.
Facilitate meetings with components of the SCT Program concerning the quality program and regulatory strategies to identify program problems/deficiencies and facilitate implementation of program goals/objectives and recommendations for improvement.
Oversees site visits from insurance companies and regulatory agencies. Develop, monitor, and revise functional processes in accordance with goals and objectives.
Ensure the physicians and clinical staff follows standardized policies and protocols and implement strategies to address non-compliance issues.
Process Improvement
Oversee the performance improvement activities within the stem cell/BMT program.
Identify problems/deficiencies in the stem cell department and implement recommendations for improvement.
Business Development
In collaboration with growth team and physicians, implement strategies for stem cell program growth and new program development.
Assist with improving patient access through developing fixed price contracts with insurance providers.
System & Data Maintenance
Help develop and maintain the various data elements in EPSi that are needed to keep City of Hope’s budgeting, cost accounting and PLA updated and relevant. Work with individual department heads to develop Relative Value Units, and train them as end-users of EPSi so that they can get reports and dashboards that deliver meaningful information to them. Also, work with the other sites and enterprise finance to assure stats are effectively managing the intended impact and maintain facility-wide overhead allocation statistics such as square footage studies, productive hours, etc. in accordance with corporate cost accounting standards.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED
10 years of progressive experience in an oncology department; 3 years as a departmental leader or program coordinator role
Bachelor Degree in Nursing, Business, Healthcare or related field.
PREFERRED
5 years of management experience in an oncology department
Education-Advanced Degree (e.g. Master’s Degree) in Finance, Healthcare, Business, or related field
Licensure-Registered Nurse

Pay Range
$98,166.43 - $161,616.00Placement within the identified pay range is based on individual and market factors including, but not limited to, experience, education, credentials (including licenses and certifications), geographic location, market competition, skill set (including market availability of required skills), assigned/anticipated job tasks, and level of responsibility. These factors are considered without regard to an individual’s status as a member of any protect group pursuant to federal, state, and/or local law.
